Programme for sports and physical education
Combines an education that makes you qualified for most higher studies, with sports.
After three years with this programme you will receive general university and college admissions certification. You will also get the opportunity to develop within a chosen activity. The activities from which you can choose at “Stryn vidaregåande skule” are: Football, handball, cross-country skiing and biathlon.
Football
“Stryn vidaregåande skule” offers football as an in-depth study subject. In this way you can combine your football priority with education.
Football is an in-depth study subject that is chosen by the majority of the students. Here the students are offered as many as three classes a week where they play football. We have fine indoor and outdoor stadiums. “Strynehallen” is used during the whole winter, and here you can also make use of our gym. When there is no snow left we also use a football field with artificial grass at “Stryn stadion”. “Stryn vidaregåande skule” is also cooperating with “Stryn fotball”, so that students who come to visit will get an offer to exercise during the evenings.
In VG1 you will mainly be introduced to several sports, but there will almost every week be one football class. When the subject courses are all accomplished you will have two football classes a week instead of one. In VG2 and VG3 you will find three football classes on the week schedule. During these classes we will emphasize physical, technical and tactical factors that are essential when playing football and also important for the athlete on a long time basis.
By accomplishing three years of programme for sports and physical education where football is your in-depth study subject you will be qualified to obtain Trainer 1-authorization, that earlier corresponded to B-trainer in football.
Cross-country skiing and biathlon
“Stryn vidaregåande skule” is the only school that offers a thoroughly developed model for those who wish to combine skiing with their education.
Practising cross-country skiing and biathlon takes time. That is why we have classes lasting three to four school hours. This will make it possible with skiing classes lasting from one and a half to two hours; this means that we can ascend a mountain peak in the vicinity!
Students who choose to have cross-country skiing and biathlon as in-depth sports will be brought to Ullsheim, a local facility for these sports, several times a week. Here they get to practise in well-prepared tracks, directed by qualified trainers both at mid day and in the afternoon.
The ground course will mainly make you familiar with a selection of sports, but during the most important part of the summer and winter you will get the opportunity to exercise cross-country skiing and biathlon two times a week during school time. In VK1 and VK2 we will basically arrange for up to three classes a week.
Should there be a lack of snow at Ullsheim we can also make use of other facilities within a reasonable distance. Hornindal, Vangen and Strynefjellet are also places where we find good conditions.
At Ullsheim the school also manages locker rooms and gyms. Here we have snow cannon facilities that will enable us to start the season much earlier and get more stable conditions.
Handball
At Stryn Vidaregåande Skule you can choose to have handball as an in-depth study. Of the in all ten classes a week you will get at least one handball class in VG1. In Vg2 and VG3 you will get two or three classes a week, depending on how many subject courses you attend.
In Strynehallen we teach and basically try to improve your technical, tactical and physical capabilities. In addition, we also use the gym and Amfi frequently.
Emnekurs
Orienteering
Orienteering is a subject course which stretches over 25 hours. E.g. 8 practical shifts of 3 hours. Here we focus on understanding and use of orienteering maps and compasses. During the course, the students get to attempt 3 different maps and terrains.
General skiing skills/biathlon
The course of general skiing skills stretches through 25 hours. The students start the course with skiing games (like mogul events, jumping, slalom etc) and then move on to learning techniques within the two styles in cross-country skiing; classical and ski skating. At the end of the course, the students will also be able to learn a bit about biathlon. Ullsheim, the county facility for cross-country skiing and biathlon, is used for this course.
Outdoor Life
We go on several trips in the open air during the three years.
Hiking trip
Early in the autumn in VG1 the class goes on a hiking trip. The hiking trip goes over two days with one overnight stay. The trip goes to a place in the local area like “Klebersdalen” or “Vetledalssætra”. The aim of the trip is to learn to be encamped, use of equipment and to learn what is important to bring on a hiking trip.
Canoe trip
The class (VG1) goes on this trip in the spring. This trip also goes over two days with one overnight stay. On the trip the class takes the buss to a local place called “Lodalen”. Then we paddle from “Sande” to “Nesdalen”. In “Nesdalen” the class stays in tents and lavvoes. During the trip the students get to learn how to make and use the camping place, to be encamped, and how to use canoes and kayaks.
Snow cave trip
The snow cave trip takes place between the winter- and Easter holidays. The trip takeser three days with two overnight stays. The aim of the trip is to learn about winter outdoor life, avalanche dangers, avalanche searching and how to build and live in a snow cave.
Glaicer trip
This trip is a sort of last trip for the student of the programme for sports and physical education. We go on this trip at the end of the third class. It is an exiting and funny trip, which takes three days. The students stay in tents and lavvoes. During these days the class goes on trips on “Briksdalsbreen” and “Brendalsbreen”. The students learn how to be safe on the glacier.
Coast trip
The coast trip is an outdoor life trip in VG2, which is accomplished during the autumn time. The trip takes three days with two overnight stays. The last years the class has used the camp “Kropollen”. During the two days the students learn to sail, fish and have fun.
